YOUNG DIRECTORS
PROJECT

Theatre – Discussions – Lectures – Photo Exhibition – Films

It’s an interesting question as to what themes, texts or pictures a young generation of producers, employing different theatre languages and coming from an internationally varied background, will come up with when they take part in the Young Directors Project competition sponsored by Montblanc at the Salzburg Festival.
The programme brings together three directors whose productions will be performed in three different languages: Falk Richter from Germany, Oskaras Karsunovas from Lithuania and Frédéric Fisbach from France. All three are in their early thirties. Their productions are based on literary texts ranging from classical Greek drama to modern American plays.
Have they got something in common despite the difference in production circumstances? Can one still speak of a difference between institutionalized theatre and free ensemble? Or is this distinction one that is peculiar to the German theatre world? These are only a few of the questions which the Young Directors Project will be addressing and which will be discussed by the artists themselves.
At the end of the cycle of performances one of the young producers will be given the newly-founded Montblanc Young Directors Project Award on
18 August. The award is worth € 10,000.
