STUDENTS AND MASTERS OF THEIR CRAFT
Master-classes will be held for the first time in summer 2002

At the instigation of Drama Director Jürgen Flimm the Salzburg Festival is organising for the first time in summer 2002 a master-class in drama. Courses and workshops will be held between 22 July and 24 August in which talented young stage-directors, stage- and costume-designers, dramaturges and arts journalists will have the chance to study with renowned artists appearing at the Salzburg Festival. These include Andrea Breth, Veronica Ferres, Jürgen Flimm, Martin Kusej, Rolf Mares, Stephan Müller, Claus Peymann, Falk Richter, Joachim Schlömer, C. Bernd Sucher, Peter Turrini, Eberhard Witt and Martin Zehetgruber. The project is being organised in cooperation with the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum and directed by C. Bernd Sucher. Participation in all courses of the master-class is obligatory for the maximum number of 25 selected students. In this way future directors will also become familiar with the tasks of the dramaturges and they will also have the chance to understand the problems of the critics as well as of the stage- and costume-designers.
Applicants need the following: Stage-directors, stage- and costume-designers: concepts for productions of Shakespeare’s "The Merchant of Venice" and Bond’s "Saved".
Dramaturges: Ideas for the realisation of these works and ways of designing a programme booklet. Journalists: A critical review of these two works and a comparative essay about Marlowe’s "The Jew of Malta" and Shakespeare’s "The Merchant of Venice". Applications are to be submitted by 17 May 2002 to the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding, Prof. C. Bernd Sucher, Ismaninger Strasse 95, D-81675 München Participants have to pay a fee of 2 150; an allowance will be given towards the costs of the stay in Salzburg.
